HAHNEMUHLE BLOCS

HAHNEMUHLE Drawing and design paper. Traditional papermaking on this machine starts in the vat, in which a cylindrical mould rotates. Hahnemühle mixes pure spring water and pulp fibres, as well as some other mixed and diluted ingredients. The fibres are either linters (cotton fibres) or cellulose.

In the vat, a cylinder rotates slowly and evenly. At the apex of this cylindrical filter is where the paper is "born": The paper fibres remain disordered and combine to form a wet paper fleece. Later, thanks to the unordered arrangement of the fibres of the handmade paper, the paint can "flow" very freely, thus creating an evocative effect. Then, in paper production, the water flows through the filter and the paper fleece remains in the felt, still very wet. The felts continue to transport the paper in the machine and give it a texture at the top and bottom, depending on the desired variety, and drain the paper.

The speed of the cylinder mould machine is between 4 to 14 metres/minute, so it is relatively slow. But it is this traditional method of manufacture that ensures that the product meets the quality expectations of a genuine handmade paper. On the cylinder mould machine, only paper weights ranging from 80 to 600 g/m2 - i.e. from very thin to very stable - can be produced, from the light Ingres paper to the heavy Leonardo.pel watercolour board for drawing and design Hanehmuler
