With Mussini resin oil paints, the foundation stone of Schmincke & Co. was laid at the end of the 19th century: in 1881, the two chemist brothers Josef Horadam and Hermann Schmincke founded the old master recipes of the painter and professor Cesare Mussini at the Academy in Florence in search of high-quality traditional recipes for artists' oil paints. Resin oil paints had gone out of fashion before the invention of the tube because - unlike the "normal" oil paints used at that time - they were difficult to transport and store without such tight containers. Schmincke and Horadam acquired the recipes, developed them and ensured that resin oil paints could be filled into universally usable tubes from then on.
